The war would distract the nation for the time being and before they woke up he should be gone and preferably be forgotten. His fortune was safe in Argentina where a better life was awaiting. He grinned.

That bloodsucker had had an audience of one before he scattered and he couldn't help thinking of a hyena arena as he heard the crazy laughing echoing through the hidden chamber of the western wing of his castle.

Abruptly the horse stopped and catapulted the king on the fled into the abandoned trench. There he laid on his back thinking: William, you are not as free as you thought and not liked at all. No one came to his rescue, no man wondered or missed the king. Not even the dogs used for the royal hunt cared about the man who had never fed or petted them.
For a while, the horse waited till the groaning was over. As she noticed some greener grass and daffodils she left without spending a second thought about the one who had ridden her back.
