Success(2).jpg

At the age of five, I could read and write. I was what was then called an early learner. Early students were younger than the average student. You went to school at the age of six. The early student was five and the late student was seven.

I have always loved reading and therefore also loved books. The best gift was a book. If I didn't get one, I saved my meagre pocket money to buy the paperback book I could afford.
"Over twee pratende poezen" is one of those paperback books. How old would it be? It doesn't say the year, but I can still see myself sitting on the floor of the bookstore. The publishing house published a series of children's books by various (unknown?) writers. I still like this book.

20240425_172713.jpg

In addition to children's books such as "Peppie het poesje" (a tomcat, not a cat, whose mother could cook delicious food) I soon read "Een Brief voor de Koning" (A Letter for the King - medieval period) by Tonke Dragt. I still remember how, while reading, I became absorbed in another world and forgot everything around me. Nowadays this rarely happens.

I have also read a lot of fairy tales and still do. As a teenager, I even secretly cycled to the house of the housekeeper who lived in another town to read her storybooks.

Are there any books that changed my life?
I don't think I can name one although there are books that made an impression on me such as the one mentioned above and "The Perfume" by Patrick Süskind. This mainly has to do with recognition. Whether it concerns a good sense of smell (as in 'The Perfume') or why it is impossible to have a meaningful conversation with some people.

Can be this book 'The Old Man and Mr Smith' changed my life or at least it made something clear/sense to me

I don't think books that end up on the reading list or are highly recommended are necessarily good. Just like with films, this is also about what is promoted or what is imposed by schools as being a good book. The same applies to the top 10 or top 25 books that bookstores use. To me, that is no different than marketing.
If a writing style or theme does not appeal, then it is a waste of time to read a book.

No matter how short or long the story is, the writing style or topic, it gives me always something to think about and with a bit of luck it will be the inspiration to write myself.
In addition to professional literature, I also have several books (including reference works) in the field of healthcare and animals. Next to that, I have a large number of history books that describe not only human life during a certain time period, but also architecture and art.

I don't think there is a book that I see as my favourite life changing book. There is no writer/scientist/doctor that I agree with 100% in his thinking. After all, nothing is as changeable as man and the spirit of the times in which something is written also plays an important role when it comes to proclaiming the 'truth'.
By the way, I've never heard of the day of the book. I don't think we celebrate something like that. We have a children's book week and a book week and anyone who buys a book will receive the book week gift. If you ask me one week is better to introduce children/people to the magic of reading.

I find it difficult to claim that anyone who reads a lot automatically has a larger vocabulary, is a better storyteller or can write better. When I look around me, that is certainly not the case. Many writers also cannot read aloud properly, which negatively affects their work. This is what I experienced, which is why I never bought books from them. The reverse is also the case. I started reading Baantjer's books after he gave a lecture and read from his own work.

My book? A (fairy) tale.

Me encanta tu participación.

What a coincidence! I also learnt to read and write at 5🐣!

Hello dear, I wish to you to be in peace and living their best moments of life.

When most people or children used to spend their pocket money on their food and drink, then you used to save money and buy books. This clearly shows that you like reading books a lot. It means that you have a storehouse of words inside you and you have a depth of understanding of life.
Best of luck , may you achieve wealth , health , success and prosperity in your life Greetings from my side . Have a nice day .

Thank you so much for your kind words. ❤️🍀

@wakeupkitty,, Greetings to this contest,,

When we spend time with our dearest friends, we unconsciously separate ourselves from everything around us. Books are also our very dear friends. There is a saying in our country that "one good book is worth a hundred friends", while reading a book carefully, we immerse ourselves in that world. I remember today when I read the book "Padma Nadiman Majhi" written by Bengali writer Manik Bandopadhyay, I felt that I was not the reader of the story but a character who was watching all the activities of the characters from a distance. The sound of the water of Odma river is gurgling.

In our country, a long fair called Book Mela is organized even if it is not Book Day. It is one of the longest festivals in our country. It stays for the entire month of February. All the writers of the country publish their writings in this fair. And book lovers from all parts of the country come to Dhaka. Rush to this book fair to buy the published and best books of their favorite authors.

One good book is for sure better than hundred friends and not as demanding. It's hard to stop reading if lost in a story. It's the best to be one of the characters, don't you think so?

Lucky you with an entire month of book festival. That would be something to look forward to plus it's the place to meet other readers. What books did you buy last February?

Thank you for letting me know about this event and commenting.

Blessings to you and a great reading time.
❤️🍀

Due to the fact that the book fair is going on for a whole month, it really creates a great opportunity to interact with other readers. Sometimes there are also many big celebrities of Bangladesh.

I bought the book "Nayori" written by Mori Maryam in the last book fair and this book is one of the top 10 best selling books.

I always wonder about how these books end up in the top 10. It's marketing. Since without marketing no one knows it exists and people do not buy it. We have those tops too but I believe the publishers pay for it just like si gers did in the old days to let their song play every hour on the radio.

You like the book?

Dear Sir,
BT author is popular since long and he revealed before the book fair that he is going to publish a great book and he also shared some of the contents of his book with us. So his book was a hit from the day it was published in the fair.

Thank you for letting me know how it works with you. So he did promote his book himself and said it was great before anyone read it. He must be a good writer.

He is a really good writer. He is a very popular writer in our country nowadays.

@wakeupkitty
Dear people, I am very happy to read your post and I am very happy to know that you are fond of studying since childhood, as you said that you knew how to read and write from the age of five, so this ability was found in very few children. Yes, the environment of I Thinkup's house was such that they taught you and you were active like that, so it was good to know. It is done and the way you expressed yourself about your books is also very nice to know, so thank you so much, I will definitely study the book you have recommended and some aspects of it with you. I will also share. Thank you so much. I will take care of you.
@mona01

With us it was normal to go to school at that age but indeed it is not easy for each child. The minus is there isn't much room to play.

I like reading your thoughts about the books. You can always tag me.

Thanks for your great comment.
❤️🍀

Hello @wakeupkityy hope you are having a good day and your post really connects with me. I also found out about the joy of books when I was young and still remember how they took me to new places. It's interesting how certain books stick with us and make us think. Your thoughts on how books impact us and the wonder of storytelling are really interesting. Thanks for sharing your experiences with books, wish you success 💖🤗🌸💐🌺💞.

Thank you. It's nice to meet someone with the same experiences.

Hello @wakeupkitty, your love for reading is clearly evident and deeply strikes me. I admire how books provide you with inspiration and comfort, allowing you to explore different worlds and reflect on the deep meanings of stories that enrich your life so greatly.👋🌻

🤔 It feels as if someone else is talking.

Stories make me think but if each one of them enriches my life?
I hope you had a good journey and enjoy yourself!

🍀❤️

👋 when I spoke about how books enrich your life, I was really referring to your life as a writer. Your texts show how much you love books and how they inspire you. That's all!

I'm having fun and relaxing, rediscovering the tranquil charm of the Scandinavian countries—everything is so soft and pleasant.

🌻❤️

Ah is that what you meant to say.

How come it's more soft than Italy?
You can stay there and be happy. 😁

Absolutely, I will immerse myself in the Scandinavian comforts until I’m fully recharged! It’s a perfect way to rejuvenate. And then, Italy awaits me—pizza, spaghetti, and mandolin cannot be ignored for too long, right?
🍕🍝❤️

I’m having trouble finding ‘The Old Man and Mr Smith’ in Italian; I hope to find it available before summer. 👋🌈

For sure they sell pizza and pasta (if not see the supermarket dr. Oetker 🤢)

I thought you speak English by now or Dutch... I have the Dutch version.

How about this one?

https://www.ibs.it/vecchio-mr-smith-libro-peter-ustinov/e/9788878180215

Have fun and do not forget to eat something decent!
🍀🍫

It's raining salmon here, pizza and pasta can wait 😋 I still need the translator for English but I'm learning by your side. For Dutch, I only remember "ei sei Maurizio" (I don't know if that's how you spell it) 😅 Thanks for the Feltrinelli link, I'm ordering it right away so I can read it when I get back 👋🌈

No, I got confused. Ik ben Maurizio.😂

NL ik - EN I
NL ben - EN am
NL naam - EN name

NL: ik ben Maurizio
EN: I am Maurizio

No one will say that unless someone might ask who is..

Ik heet .../
Mijn naam is... (my name is)

Salmon is healthy. I searched for the fushshop it's empty/gone?

The fish-truck was so busy (no hering) all those people scared me away.
Tomorrow it's king's day - never celebrated it.

If it comes to the book did you search at all?

👋

Hi, dear. I need to tell you that I have noticed that when you mention many users, they don't receive the notification, this is the case, I just stopped by because I
knew it would be a great post.

I think there's no better way to show love for the books than recalling the way you started to love reading good books, peaking just one "life changing book" can make it so difficult. Maybe the phrase "life changing " is too much.

I agree with many of your thoughts. I think being a reader doesn't always make you a great writer, but it can give a bit of help.

I think the best book is the one you connect with, I like a catching writing, otherwise I leave it.

Finally, good books can be like life or school itself, you can read them (be there) without learning anything at all, it depends very much on yourself.

Loved reading you!🤗

Does @solperez know that too? I believe I do not receive her mentions either. It feels as if since over 1 week the notifications are not up to date or do not arrive.

If it comes to life changing perhaps in my case it was the fact a book helped me escape to a fantasy world? I gave up on answering questions I cannot answer. It always forces to think in the same way which I can't. I wish there was more room for exoression. I would like to see a contest where everyone has to think himself what to write about a topic. There's not much creativity in answering.

It feels to me there are less catching writers. This week I read history books. Personal life during the 8th and 8th centery with the focus on monks. It was fascinating. If I could only have one book I might take that one.

Thanks fir reading and commenting.
A warm embrace to you.
